Flight Outfitters is one of the most recognizable brands in modern aviation gear, known for producing rugged flight bags, pilot accessories, and cockpit organizers designed by pilots for pilots. The company was founded by pilot Mark, whose passion for aviation began when he heard stories from his grandfather about flying B-24 bombers during World War II. Inspired by those stories, Mark developed a lifelong fascination with aviation. After taking a few flight lessons early in life, he returned to flying after a 25-year break to earn his Private Pilot Certificate. Today he enjoys flying aircraft such as the Cessna 172 and the Citabria for both business and recreation.
While completing his flight training, Mark discovered that many flight bags on the market did not meet the needs of modern pilots. After discussing the problem with his flight instructor, he decided to design his own solution. That idea led to the creation of the original Flight Outfitters Lift Flight Bag. What began as a single pilot gear bag quickly evolved into one of the most popular aviation gear brands available today.

I built this kit as a teenager most of 55 years ago. The kit is essentially the same, but now they’re laser cut. In the past, the panels were die-cut, sometimes you get one done with a dull cutter. That took a lot of extra time, carefully re-scoring everything with a narrow Exacto blade so the pieces wouldn’t split. This kit is so crisp, it’s a joy to assemble. It’s fun seeing old reflexes come to life while assembling this baby. I only have the FW-190 from those years, but also built this one (the Hellcat), the Spitfire, Me-109, and the P-40. Good times!
