PolyGone™ 305 is a highly effective Industrial/Marine Grade polysulfide sealant depolymerizer/emulsifier designed to eliminate cured polysulfide and other sealants from various surfaces. Polysulfide is widely used in various industries, particularly in window (fenestration) manufacturing, to create durable seals for double and triple-pane windows. In the marine industry, it is often used for sealing teak decks, fuel systems, and through-hulls. Our proprietary formula, PolyGone™ 305, is specifically developed to deeply penetrate, break down, and emulsify stubborn sealants. Once disintegrated, the sealant remains suspended, preventing re-deposition and allowing for effortless rinsing.

APPLICATION:

PolyGone™ 305 operates effectively at room temperature (68°F-80°F) and is suitable for continuous spraying and immersion-based cleaning systems. While heat (120ºF/49ºC) and gentle agitation, such as ultrasonic, are not required, they can significantly enhance its performance and remove digested sealant, exposing underlying layers to fresh PolyGone™ 305. Please note that a sparging system should not be used, as it will quickly deactivate the emulsifier. It is essential to use PolyGone™ 305 at full strength, as dilution and excessive heat above 120ºF can deteriorate the emulsifier. RPM Technology advises using PolyGone™ 305 in a well-ventilated area and in a covered cleaning apparatus to prevent product evaporation for optimal results.

RINSE:

PolyGone™ 305 is a water-soluble polysulfide depolymerizer/ stripping agent. While water can be used to rinse the product, using a mild cleaner like eOx®, also available from RPM Technology, followed by pure water will enhance the removal of all leftover materials. Adding an emulsifier can improve rinsing by creating a "sheeting" effect, preventing sealant from being redeposited, and reducing water consumption. A compatible solvent like IPA or acetone can be used if water is not desired.

COMPATIBILITY:

PolyGone 305 is metal-friendly. The formulation is non-ionic and non-reactive. Metals such as Cu, Fe, Al, Zn, and Ti have been tested with PolyGone 305 with no detected metal loss. However, PolyGone 305 attacks many types of polymers and plastics. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinyl alcohol, and similar plastics should not be treated with PolyGone 305. Many elastomers are also not recommended. RPM Technology recommends the following plastics for application and storage, Polypropylene, Poly Olefin, Polyethylene (low and high density), Teflon, and Butyl Rubber. Testing is necessary to demonstrate full compatibility.

PPE: This product's recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) includes safety glasses/goggles and nitrile or butyl rubber gloves. Aprons can also be utilized for clothing protection. Avoid using gloves made from latex or vinyl.

TOXICITY:

PolyGone 305 contains a blend of polar organics. PolyGone 305 has a low inherent toxicity and at diluted levels, is essentially non-toxic to aquatic life. The material is readily biodegradable and does not bio-accumulate.

STORAGE:

PolyGone 305 must be stored in a cool, dry environment away from light and incompatible materials. The recommended storage temperature is between 50ºF-80ºF (10ºC-27ºC). Under these conditions, unopened containers of PolyGone 305 have a 1-year shelf life.

DISPOSAL:

PolyGone contains no halogenated, reactive, or other EPA regulated components. Conformance with Federal, State, and Local disposal regulations is required. Diluted PolyGone can be disposed of by discharge to a sewage treatment plant with prior approval. Used PolyGone may need to be disposed of as organic solvent waste depending on the sealants and contaminates removed. PolyGone has a high BTU value and waste can be managed through a fuels-blending program.
