Nicknamed the “Sweetheart of Okinawa” by the U.S. Marines and “Whistling Death” by the Japanese, the Corsair performed effectively in two years- the Pacific conflict of World War 2 and the Korean engagement of the early 1950’s. The first production Corsair flew on June 25, 1942 at a time when the Japanese offensive seemed irresistible. It was not until late that year, with the delivery of the first Corsair squadrons into the hands of the U.S. Marines on Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands, that the tide of air combat was permanently turned in favor of the Allied Forces. To the British Navy in the early 1944 goes credit for introducing the Corsair to carrier service. Nine months later, the U.S. Navy cleared the way for the Corsair to become the mainstay of its mighty carrier fleet.

Excellent Model at an Excellent Price!

I;m not new to tissue / balsa airplane kits but I have never built one of Guillows' kits in "Giant Scale". As with previous smaller kits the only real limitation in the kit is your imagination. I am converting the F4U Corsair to electric radio control and the Guillows plans offer very useful options to make moving control surfaces. Pilots HQ was simply fantastic as a supplier! The price was VERY reasonable, Shipping was fast and the packaging was mailman proof! All around a great experience buying a proven brand name at a great price. If you have never built a tissue balsa kit before this model may be quite challenging and I recommend a smaller / simpler kit to get started. Having said that, if you follow the instructions (READ EVERYTHING!) even a novice should be able to produce a great plane from this kit. Thanks Again Pilots HQ!
