From the Introduction:
The content of modern aviation training materials is heavily focused on mathematical formulas. These formulas are a necessary part of the theoretical exams and are used to assess a level of knowledge before progressing to more practical flight training. While using formulas during flight can be time-consuming and exhausting, it is not always possible to rely on them. Pilots are not able to divert their attention to a calculator while flying, so the proficient pilot must use airmanship to determine when mental shortcuts can be used in place of precise calculations. However, it is strongly recommended that pilots gather accurate data for all aspects of flight performance, such as takeoff and landing, weight and balance, obstacle clearance, and fuel management. Mental models can be used as a secondary check in these situations, but it is important to obtain factual data from calculators, graphs, and charts. This book aims to simplify the calculations that pilots must make on a daily basis while flying. It is not meant to replace formal aviation training, but rather to supplement it.

Utilizing the guidelines of Part 66, Aircraft Structures and Systems, like all ATB EASA modules, adhere precisely to the specified content, order, and necessary learning levels (L1, 2, or 3) for the accredited B2 avionics maintenance technician program. Numerous national authorities have approved this module as a component of the training curriculum for Part 147 schools under their jurisdiction.

As prescribed in Part 66 Appendix 1, the topics are divided in 22 sections:

  • Aeroplane Aerodynamics and Flight Controls (L1)
  • Aeroplane Structures (L1, 2)
  • Autoflight ATA 22 (L3)
  • Communication and Navigation ATA 23-24 (L3)
  • Electrical Power ATA 24 (L3)
  • Equipment and Furnishings ATA 25 (L3)
  • Flight Controls ATA 27 (L2)
